Ledbury takes Tatler crown

A Notting Hill newcomer has won the title of Tatler restaurant of the year. Despite only opening last year, The Ledbury, in Westbourne Grove, won the award for its high-quality food with Australian chef Brett Graham at the helm.

The 26-year-old started out cooking calamari by the kilo in a harbourside diner Down Under.

Graham, from New South Wales, who arrived at The Ledbury from the two-Michelin-starred The Square in Mayfair, now serves ravioli of shellfish with asparagus and champagne followed by roast pigeon with foie gras tortellinis in a cep and Madeira consommé.

"It has been a bit of a whirlwind," he said of his success. Last September The Ledbury was named as the Restaurateurs' Restaurant Of The Year.

Another popular winner was Petersham Nurseries Café, named the most original restaurant. The Richmond venue seats diners next to plant pots in the greenhouse and uses produce grown in its vegetable garden for its dishes.

Winners of the lifetime achievement award, sponsored by champagne house Louis Roederer, were celebrity chef Antonio Carluccio and his wife Priscilla.
