Foodies can help the homeless with StreetSmart restaurants

As the temperature falls this week spare a thought for those who have ended up sleeping on the streets often through no fault of their own. You can help simply by heading to the nearest restaurant participating in StreetSmart. This annual campaign raises funds to tackle homelessness by adding a voluntary £1 per table to diners’ bills during the busy build-up to Christmas.

Restaurants such as Barrafina, The Botanist, MEATLiquor, Tredwells and the new German Gymnasium are helping to raise vital funds for homelessness organisations across London. With the help of these and 500 others StreetSmart aims to beat last year’s £551,000 raised.

Deutsche Bank funds the administrative element of the StreetSmart campaign, meaning that every single penny donated goes to help.

Supporter Stephen Fry says “StreetSmart is low in bureaucracy and high on delivering. We may not be able to solve the question of homelessness but at least by doing something we, in some way, diminish its tyranny.”
