Conran's newest outpost, Islington's Almeida, has been confounding the great man's sternest critics by regularly turning out accomplished, crowd-pleasing food in attractive surroundings. Now, the Almeida's launched a cheaper set menu based round the wildly popular trolleys. For £17.50 for three courses (£14.50 for two), you can roam round the terrine trolley - the likes of terrine de campagne, rillette, and various saucissons all served with pain de campagne, pickled onions and cornichons - then order a main course such as cassoulet Toulousain; followed up by a tart trolley heaving with daily made tarts and gateaux. The trolley menu is available at lunch and pre and post-theatre.
