Eat breakfast in bed... on Putney restaurant Brew’s outdoor terrace

With freezing temperatures hitting the capital, breakfast in bed seemed an enticing prospect — but eating it outside wasn’t something I’d necessarily have opted for.

But that’s exactly what one restaurant launched this week. Brew in Putney will serve a deluxe breakfast to customers as they lounge on Bedouin-inspired double beds on the terrace. Blankets, heaters and fire-pits ensure they stay warm.

After Bollinger Champagne on arrival, a personal waiter can be summoned at the press of a button.

Owner Jason Wells, from Melbourne, Australia, said: “We wanted to create a little sanctuary for people to properly lie back and relax.”

As well as eggs and bacon, there are options including a Nordic breakfast, sushi and boiled eggs with Vegemite soldiers. The beds cost £200 for up to four people.

My phone said 3C on the morning I visited, but it was surprisingly cosy — especially tucked up under blankets.

I had Turkish eggs which were deliciously warming with yoghurt and hot chilli butter, and relaxed on a mound of pillows. It didn’t feel like London in January, that’s for sure.
