Burger & Lobster ends its signature no-menu policy
A customer backlash against a restaurant’s policy of not having a menu has forced it to perform a U-turn.
Burger & Lobster only allowed customers to be told verbally what they could choose from or to look at a blackboard saying “Burger or lobster or lobster roll. All with chips & salad. £20.”
But following hundreds of emails the firm, which opened in 2011, is launching its first ever menu.
Despite seemingly serving just two dishes, the restaurant has several variations, as well as puddings and drinks. It will trial the traditional menu format at its new West India Quay location, which opened yesterday.

Maisie Denning, head of marketing, said: “Since day one, we’ve been inundated with emails, tweets etc asking what we serve. After receiving our 1,001th email we just gave in and thought, why not?”
The restaurant will stick to its signature burgers and lobsters but offer more flexibility in portion size and price. To celebrate the new location, DLR signs nearby will be re-branded “BLR”.
