Andrew Jefford's verdict

This is the Cliff Richard of wine, it is pretty, appealing, light and well mannered.

It is not hugely fashionable - it's the sort of wine that middle-aged women will feel comfortable with. It is, however, good to see Sir Cliff has opted for a typically Portuguese wine. The aroma is not in your face, but there's a nice soft plum and raspberry scent.

If I was smelling this in a line of wines it wouldn't jump out but it's well crafted and polite. The fruit qualities are quite appealing and the oak has softened the flavour.

This medium-weight red is the best wine I have tasted from the Algarve, although the region's wines have traditionally been very poor.
