A taste of the East

Many people don't explore Japanese food beyond the sushi/sashimi/ngiri axis. But with the advent of the colder weather, Japan's hot dishes might hold more appeal. Moshi Moshi - the mini chain that introduced us to the now familiar kaiten, or conveyor belt sushi - has introduced a new range, covering more familiar options, from gyoza (the squidgy little pork and vegetable dumplings) to a selection of donburi dishes (meats served with rice) such as teriyaki unagi (grilled freshwater eel with teriyaki sauce). Prices range from £5.50 to £6.50.

Undisputedly striking, Aurora in the Great Eastern Hotel is the perfect location for wowing clients in the City. During October, head chef Warren Geraghty is offering a menu that is bursting with autumnal game. Dishes on the sixcourse menu include roasted scallops with cured wild rabbit; terrine of game with confit of turnips; and loin of hare en croute with creamed Brussels sprouts. It weighs in at £45 a head - £65 with matching wines.

Those of us who haven't been lucky enough to experience the legendary opulence and generosity of an Indian wedding banquet can now head to La Porte Des Indes.

From October 15 to November 30, the restaurant will be dripping in silks and canopies, fresh flowers and Indian artefacts. The extravagant menu will have choices such as Parsee delicacy Jardaloo Ghosh (lamb shanks with apricots and straw potatoes) and Goan Pork Sorpothel (pork loin, liver, palm vinegar and spices). Banquets cost between £35 and £40 a head.
