Adam Byatt tells us why he likes to eat in Quo Vadis

Where would you pay money to eat and how often? I went to Quo Vadis (26-29 Dean Street, W1, quovadissoho.co.uk) last Saturday and it was absolutely fantastic.

Why? The hospitality was fantastic, the food was really well delivered. It was the sort of food that you really want to eat in Soho but it was food that was more accurate and more delivered and more accessible. It really worked. Jeremy Lee is an amazing cook and it was an amazing meal that wasn’t trying to be anything other than the sum of its parts.

Who would you take? I took my wife – it was perfect for us for a date night. There is a bar/club upstairs which is great for a drink.

What do you eat there? I had crab mayonnaise which was literally a bowl of the finest crab meat, homemade mayonnaise, croutons and lemon. It was beautiful. I had a kid with carrots and peas which was fantastic. My wife had lamb sweetbreads with almonds and peas, also beautiful, and I had a praline ice cream with hot chocolate sauce. What could go wrong!
