Back with the acts, we travelled to the Fifties to see a hula girl with the kind of stomach you could have confused with a washboard from the same decade.
She managed to shimmy hoops from the floor up her body until she had one spinning from every available inch of herself. The audience went wild.
Then an Eighties-style magician/ comedian mesmerised us by rolling a crystal ball over his body. It looked far more amazing than it sounds, take it from me.
By this stage we were all pretty excitable and when the DJ took over at 11pm we were ready to hit the dance floor with abandon.
Katie and I boogied with the men in lamé catsuits and took the opportunity to stroke their fetching electric blue outfits. A couple of American Sixties hippies, Lyndsey and Suzanne, turned out to be two sisters from Michigan.
We also became friendly with Emma, who was there with a group of friends including the beautiful Holly Golightly lookalike, to celebrate her 24th birthday. She had won a bottle of champagne in the ping pong game and seemed to be having the time of her life.
We danced to a mixture of music styles to suit every era, from Salt'n'Pepa, Wham! and Dolly Parton, to Elvis. The sad part was, it finished at midnight when the time machine returned us to 2008. But getting Warped was brilliant fun while it lasted.
Warped: A Journey Through The Ages Of Variety is every Saturday from 8pm at The Mission Rooms, Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell (warpednight.com, 020 7278 0816). Entry is £15 in advance
