The drink: The Nutty Martini
What’s in it? 40ml Bacardi 8yrs, 15ml Frangelico, 10ml pomegranate syrup and a few dashes of homemade rose bitters. Shaken with ice and served in a Champagne coupé.
Why should we try it? We’re all for a twist on the Martini, and this one works wonders. It’s the perfect winter Martini with its almond and hazelnut aromas conjuring up images of street vendors selling roasted nuts. The nutty taste from the Frangelico and the sweetness of the pomegranate molasses are a dream team, and the rose bitters add a subtle yet tangy floral note to finish. Double strained and served in a Champagne coupé it looks as elegant as it tastes.
Where do we get it? Tucked away inside the New Wing at Somerset House you’ll find Pennethorne’s Café & Bar, which has all the swank of a Parisian grand café without any of the pretentiousness. With high ceilings, gold-topped tables and black velvet walls, it provides a central London haven away from the tourist traps where you can settle in until closing with its decently priced cocktails.
