Where to celebrate Burns Night in London

Not even Shakespeare can lay claim to an annual celebration in his honour, so Burns Night - a celebration of the life and poetry of Robert Burns - is a special occasion indeed. If you're hoping to nibble on some neeps and round off the evening with a wee dram later this month, these are the best places to do it.

Burns Night dinner at The Caledonian Club
If you want to do Burns night properly, then you really can't get a much more comprehensive experience than that hosted by The Burns Club of London, which has been celebrating the occasion every year for the last 140 years. The formal dinner on January 22 will include speakers, poems, songs and two hours of ceilidh dancing for everyone.

Supper at The Royal National Hotel
Hot on the heels of The Burns Club of London, The North London Burns Club is also hosting a slightly less expensive dinner at The Royal National Hotel on January 29. For £45 you will get a traditional Burns Supper, a selection of Burns songs and poems and a ceilidh with band Kafoozalum.

Burns Night Superhoot in Brixton
If you're really strapped for cash, you should head down to Brixton Hootananny on January 22, where the Burns Night Superhoot is headlined by Scottish band Schiehallion. The eclectic line up also includes bluesy rock 'n' roll from Stax Dempsey and burlesque from Trixie Sparkles, and you'll be able to party until the wee hours.

Burns Night fundraiser
In a rather curious clash of cultures, the Latin American Foundation for the Future will be holding a Burns Night fundraiser on January 22 that includes a live ceilidh band and caller, an Elderbubble cocktail upon arrival, and canapés. Dress code: black tie with a twist of tartan.

Poetry is great and everything, but if you're looking for laughs on Burns Night you can't beat, well, laughter.
