The Lion King comes alive at National Geographic Store

For fans of The Lion King, whether the original 1994 Walt Disney film, or the explosive West End musical, here is an exhibition which will refresh your perspective, however much you think you know.

Until October 17, the successful Disney musical at the Lyceum theatre is being laid bare in the National Geographic London Store on Regent Street.

The show has enjoyed the 9th longest run in the history of West End musicals, attracting 8 million theatre-goers over that time, and now there is an opportunity to inspect the splendorous and variegated costumes in the cold light of day, and to trace the genesis of the award winning production.

The display showcases the costumes (including African tribal designs and masks and Balinese puppets), as well as the initial set designs, sketches and models which helped director and designer Julie Taymor grapple with the gargantuan task of providing the famous songs and plot with a fittingly vivid display. In addition, there is film and photography of the embryonic stages, and interactive touch screen displays to boot.

Taymor is highly acclaimed in theatre, opera and film. However this exhibition reveals the true extent of her and her team's resourcefulness in building the show rightfully enjoying its twelfth year.
