St Pancras goes on double time with new Cornelia Parker clock sculpture

Millions of visitors will see double time at St Pancras Station thanks to a new sculpture by Cornelia Parker.

The Royal Academician has created One More Time, 2015, a complete working replica of the station's giant clock, but reversed so it has white hands and numerals on a black face.

It is suspended 16 metres in front of the original so passengers alighting from trains will find the original face gradually eclipsed.

Parker, who is best known for works such as the exploded shed, Cold Dark Matter, now in the Tate, said: "When people are in a station, all they're thinking of is whether they're on time. There's a certain level of anxiety, usually centred on the clock."

She added it was "fantastic to have a captive audience" of around 48 million people a year for the work which weighs 1.5 tonnes and is six metres in diameter, created by Dent, who manufactured the original.

The commission is a partnership between the owners of St Pancras International and the Royal Academy.
