Preview: The Arts Hijack in Brixton

This Friday and Saturday, get ready for Brixton’s Coldharbour Lane to be turned into an artistic melting pot with a weekend dedicated to showcasing the best emerging underground talent.

Hosted by arts collective Platform 33 and in association with Pinch TV and community arts movement, The Brick Box, the venue will be transformed to stage performances from 33 artists across genres such as music, art, dance, immersive theatre and spoken word. Each artists gets 33 minutes to introduce themselves, their art form and perform their pieces, some of which will feature some cutting edge cross-genre collaborations.

Launched this January and usually staged just one night a month, this is Platform 33’s biggest project to date. Having showcased everything from graffiti and poetry to freestyle football, circus and jazz, The Arts Hijack aims to go that bit further this weekend, by giving a unique insight into these different art forms and the lives of the amazing talents behind them.

As well as checking out these underground creatives in the packed schedule, there will also be DJs, a full bar and food dished up by local Brixton suppliers on both nights.

All proceeds from the weekend go towards funding The Brick Box’s community arts projects.
