Music and memories at John Lennon night
A funk band are planning some radical reinterpretations of classic Beatles hits to mark the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's death this Wednesday.
The Drastic Phono Band will be giving tracks like Daytripper a dose of slap bass and punchy brass for their take on the Beatles' celebrated back catalogue at Brasserie and Wine Bar Toulouse Lautrec in Kennington.
The group plan to take to the stage on December 8, exactly 30 years to the day since John Lennon was killed by Mark Chapman as he walked to his apartment.
Rock photographer Laurie Asprey will also be there to share his stories of photographing Lennon and the band in the 60s, and music journalist and BBC broadcaster Jonathan Wingate will be hosting an in-depth discussion on all things Lennon with Drastic Phono Band leader Emrys Baird.
If you'd like to pay tribute to John Lennon and watch this funky troupe rework some of the most revered songs of all time, the discussion starts at 8pm and the band will take to the stage at around 9pm.
Tickets are £5 or entry is free with a meal in the brasserie beforehand.
