Modelling goes to the dogs

If you thought Londoners came in all shapes and sizes, wait until you see their pooches strutting their stuff on the 'dogwalk' at Harrods.

On what has the potential to be a somewhat bizarre occasion, Man's Best Friend will be taking to the stage to showcase the autumn/winter collection of dogwear.

However, this event is not just a platform for any aspiring model dog to flounce around making outrageous demands. It is serious stuff.

A number of renowned designers including Vivienne Westwood and Ben de Lisi have created exclusive canine costumes. One of Westwood's designs is rumoured to have a £2,500 price tag attached, mainly due to the presence of diamonds and sapphires.

The 'dogwalk' is a challenging 60ft long so it can only be hoped there are no distractions that could cause the stars of the show to wander off cause mayhem along the route.

An appropriate finale to the evening will see the distribution of doggy bags featuring a mind-boggling selection of treats.

Later in the evening, actresses Brittany Murphy and Liz Hurley are expected to accompany Harrods boss Mohammed Al-Fayed to a champagne reception raising money for the retired Greyhound Trust.
