Line up for London's Summer Discovery Weekend
CultureLine, a partnership of 10 museums along the new London Overground East London Line, will host a Summer Discovery Weekend between 6-8 August.
The programme features exhibitions, costumed characters, guided walks and live music. From local history to international contemporary art and engineering masterpieces there are events for all interests and ages.
The weekend will kick off with a preview event at the Whitechapel Gallery on Thursday 5 August and continue with events and activities in all 10 museums along the Overground line.

For adults
Preview event at the Whitechapel Gallery on Thursday 5 August: a talk by Daniel Herrmann on Alice Neel: Painted Truth. This is the first major retrospective of the influential painter, which features a portrait of Andy Warhol previously unseen in the UK (Thursday, 7pm. Tickets £8.50/£6.50 – plus concessions. Booking essential. Free admission with exhibition ticket)
Africa Live! at the Horniman Museum: a day of celebration of the people, customs and cultures of Africa with live music, stalls and food and drink (Sunday, 1-5pm. Free)
A guided tour of one of London's most iconic lost buildings, the Crystal Palace, with the Crystal Palace Museum (Sunday, 12–1.30pm. Tickets available from the museum on the day: £3.50 - concessions apply)
For family
Live music from Caribbean Steel International at the Geffrye Museum, plus garden games from Victorian times to the present day (Sunday, 12noon – 5pm. Free)
Thames Tunnel Fancy Fair at the Brunel Museum. Celebrate 'the Eighth Wonder of the World' with local children who will recreate the spectacle with entertainments celebrating the world's first underwater sideshow (Friday, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm. Tickets £5)
