Going Out | Events and Things To DoIt’s all go on Clapham CommonA new breed of wine bars, cafes and restaurants is making Clapham cool, says Victoria StewartFields: Lauren Heaphy and Julian PorterVictoria Stewart1 August 2014What's that you say? “Clapham’s cool?” Well, it might be hard to convince East Enders or anyone who has been to Clapham Grand or Infernos nightclubs of this but when, last week, a new restaurant was announced called WC — Wine and Charcuterie — in, wait for it, the old public toilet next to Clapham Common Tube station, the editor’s ears pricked up.That came shortly after we heard about Brickwood, another antipodean-style coffee house and bakery, and the fact that there was to be a new all-day café and bruncherie called Fields run by the people behind Balham brunch spot M1LK. Bang in the middle of the Common, from the end of August, you can expect a herby roof garden and plant nursery, speciality coffee (and cold pressed organic almond milk, obvs) and food supplied locally.Meanwhile, who’s been to No 11 Pimlico Road restaurant? Well the same team has started up No 32 Old Town in a former pub on a corner, which is useful for lunch dates or cocktails — such as the English Rhubarb Royal, like a kir royale with rhubarb vodka — on the roof. And don’t forget the rather wonderful The Dairy restaurant, already a favourite with restaurant critics in under a year of service, which has a garden on the roof, from which they serve all their food. Vivienne Westwood lives very nearby.Clapham Comm-ON.Read MoreIt’s all go on Clapham CommonBoozing in Bethnal Green: new pubs and bars in E2It's getting Hottenham in here: Tottenham's new foodie destinations Taste the new Peckham order: SE15's food revolutionLewisham's top restaurants, cafes, markets and barsDeptford area guide: Deptford's best bars, restaurants, markets and shopsBroadway Market's hottest new food and drink spotsWhy you should visit Dalston SquareClapton's best restaurants, bars and shopsThings to do in Peckham: SE15's best restaurants, bars and cultureLondon's hottest hipster hangouts all begin with HWhat's new in New Cross: SE14's best restaurants, bars and cultureHaggerston's new restaurants, cafes and barsNight out on Mare Street: the best bars, restaurants and hangoutsWalthamstow is Awesomestow: E17's best bars, restaurants and cultureTooting is officially rooting: SW17's best bars, restaurants and cultureWhere to eat and drink in Highbury: the best restaurants, cafés and barsSupper Street: why N1 is the new glutton's paradiseNotting Hill's best restaurants, bars and cultureHave a Hackney Wick-endWhere to eat and drink in WimbledonWhere to eat and drink in St James's Park
