Counteract the urge to hibernate this winter with a bundle of festivals designed to lift the spirits and carry you through until spring.

Watch circus, dance and cabaret performances at the London International Mime Festival, go underground and immerse yourself in offbeat arts at the Vault Festival, and celebrate the sisterhood at the Southbank Centre's WoW: Women of the World, with guest speakers including Caitlin Moran and Laura Bates of the Everyday Sexism Project.

For something a little more family-friendly, kick back with the kids at Imagine Children's Festival, a fortnight-long event focusing on fun stuff for children, or take to the streets to usher in the Chinese New Year.

And you can even discover the future, not by gazing into a crystal ball but by listening to talks from people who use some kind of science magic to predict trends, all appearing at Futurefest.
