Go club class in the Alps

What do committed clubbers do when the Ibiza sun isn't beating? They head to the Alps for a week of winter hedonism. From 7 to 13 April, DJs including Fabio and Grooverider, Cream's Yousef and Mr Scruff will be lugging their decks up the slopes to the Swiss resort of Villars for Snowbombing - the biggest snowboarding and music festival in the world.

Snowbombing is run by world-class snowboarders and club promoters, including Darren Laws from Manchester-based Grand Central Records. Says organiser Gareth Cooper: "It's the new face of clubbing." Justin Robertson, of Cream's Bugged Out, agrees: "Imagine boarding down a mountain into the sunset with big beats echoing around the mountains - it almost beats the beach."

Now in its third year, Snowbombing is dubbed the winter Ibiza. It quickly outgrew its first home, Risoul, in the southern French Alps. This year 3,500 snowboarders - from beginners to pros - are expected in Villars for a week of phat beats, piste action and nocturnal fun.

By day you snowboard to the sounds of slopeside DJs: take the train from the resort to Le Bretaye to access 140km of runs; if you're learning, try a lesson with Laurent at Riderschool - one of Switzerland's most senior instructors, he makes it look so easy. Adrenaline junkies should head for Les Diablarets glacier or try heli-boarding, bookable through the tourist office.

The three-day Bomb Comp pits 50 of the world's best boarders against each other half-way up the resort before the landmark Restaurant du Col. The competition changes daily from Best Jib/Run where riders get cash for the best tricks, to the Multi-Player, in which teams of three perform formation flying.

The climax is Thursday night's Big Air competition, when riders battle it out on the gap kicker before thousands of spectators. Watch it from the restaurant, where Radio 1's Jo Whiley has been invited to broadcast live during the events. Be sure to ask for chef Jimmy's cheese on toast.

Club to DJs from London, New York, Italy, Munich and Madrid. Kruder and Dorfmeister, Tim Westwood and Giles Petersen will play live in the theatre at The Palace Hotel (where Club Med reps usually do their cabaret). At Club Gringo, famous for pole dancing and Euro-pop, you'll find mellow funkmeisters Zero 7, and at Live top of the bill are Yousef and Lottie.
