For years, McCullin suffered from flashbacks. Can he ever forget what he's seen? "Impossible," he says immediately, though he laughs when I ask whether he's ever tried to get psychiatric help. He talks of the starving albino boy to whom he gave a sweet, the only thing in his pocket. "And I thought, 'Please don't look at me, just don't look at me.' And then, a little while after, when I was busy with something else, I suddenly felt something light touch my hand, and it was him, trying to hold my hand. And I thought, 'Oh God, what am I going to do?' I don't want to see that boy's picture come up in the developer ever again. I'm done with it."
