Nearly 2,000 fans have thrown their support behind a petition calling on the BBC to commission an Arctic Monkeys live concert special.
The Change.org petition claims the Alex Turner fronted band should get their own one-hour special in celebration of their upcoming sixth album.
It is calling on fans to tweet Rachel Davies, commissioning executive at BBC Music, to help secure the demand.
Set up by James Gillen, the petition reads: “With the release of Arctic Monkeys' sixth album approaching, it's time for the BBC to celebrate one of the finest British bands of the 21st century at their peak in a one-hour television special.
“After recent BBC shows focusing on Sam Smith and U2, the format would be the perfect opportunity to showcase Arctic Monkeys and the top quality British songwriting of Alex Turner to a national audience.”
Previous one off specials have also featured Adele and Harry Styles.
Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O'Malley announced the news of their new album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino earlier this month. The record, which will be their first since AM in 2012, will be released on May 11.
The Sheffield-based group also released tickets for their upcoming UK tour on Friday, but fans were left disappointed as touts snapped them up before attempting to flog them for as much as £4,000 on secondary sites.
Some tickets were marked up between £100-800 for gigs in Newcastle, Dublin and Manchester while a level one ticket for London’s O2 Arena in September would set fans back £4,840.
But See Tickets warned fans not to purchase from secondary sites as the surname of the lead booker must be in attendance.
