He dismisses the idea of his career as a glamorous profession. 'There's nothing romantic about it. It's full of discipline. I'm always aware of how tough a place it is.' But he has never doubted it's the right job for him.
'It's something I've always wanted to do, ever since I was seven, when a teacher in a school in Southfields cast me in a play. I remember thinking that was that. It was as though I had been dropped off in the right place. Acting has never been something I want to do - but something I have to do.'
