Shocks and silliness on offer

Prudes and priests will probably not be queuing up to experience an evening where balloons, bloody Marys and at least one burnt bra are deployed as weapons of mass distraction. The atmosphere is not so much theatre as sensuously shady nightclub, where the audience members sit around tables in groups of eight and invite major embarrassment simply by ordering what's on the menu.

Duckie's outrageous cabaret acts include blasphemy and vodka, and one of the most disturbing ways I've ever seen of serving nachos. Each table is presented with a plateful of Duckie dollars and asked to select acts of varying expense, ranging from Miss High Kick of the Seven Cocks down to Being Insulted.

Is it theatre? Not really. But for those who fancy a bit of a champagne-fuelled giggle (bottles come at £10) it's a slightly subversive piece of silliness that plays jokingly with the limits of squeamishness as much as it tries to crash through the shock barrier.

If there is a criticism, it is that the gap between the acts at your table can seem too long, and occasionally you find yourself looking jealously at other tables wishing you'd had what they'd ordered. Some acts are hilarious, others just a walk on the mild side - but for those seeking an alternative partying experience, don't duck this opportunity.
