Promise of a meaty line-up

Comedic philanthropy looms large over the next few days. On Monday, Ricky Gervais is at the Lyceum to raise cash for Nottingham's Just The Tonic club, which bore witness to his early days as a standup.

But first, there's fundraising antics for the Battersea Arts Centre: at Sausage Night II, punters are, indeed, promised a free sausage (vegetarian or otherwise) with their ticket. But we rather suspect the moniker is to prompt the groansome bon mots - 'meaty line-up', 'sizzling stars', yada yada - that litter the show's publicity material.

Happily the hype is more than justified, though the gags will certainly be funnier. First off, fans of the wonderful shows Fist Of Fun and This Morning With Richard Not Judy definitely won't want to miss this chance to catch former collaborators Stewart Lee and Richard Herring on the same bill.

Joining them are a talented Cambridge Footlights pair who feel like the new generation's Lee And Herring - Peep Show's David Mitchell and Robert Webb.

Also on the bill are TV Burper Harry Hill, former Perrier newcomer nominee Paul Foot, Popworld presenter Simon Amstell and performance poet Lemn Sissay, with everything compered by Arthur Smith.

All the comics are donating their services for free, with proceeds going toward BAC's programme to help new, young artists develop their work. For Lee in particular this is a perfect payback: his terrific musical Jerry Springer: The Opera started life here.

It's just a shame comic actor Will Adamsdale is abroad. His character show Howard's Way was developed at BAC, then promptly became the shock winner of 2004's Perrier prize on his Edinburgh debut.
