The main narrative threads, though, are romantic and sewn by Joe McFadden's engaging, Scottish Aladdin in tartan, who hankers for Cat Simmons's dull, wooden-doll Princess. He ultimately gets his girl, but not before thrilling the under eights when falling foul of turbaned Allam, who maintains high comic form as a fruity villain sounding like Donald Sinden dipped in Simon Callow.
