Richards has been offered TV work in the UK, but plans to stick to theatre. His own sitcom, The Michael Richards Show, wasn't a success. The writers didn't give him good supporting characters. 'I wanted to see my own Kramers,' he says.
And if his shadow is inescapable, he knows how to have fun with it. 'When I got in town, I told the producer: "I've been reading the script and I've decided I'm going to play this as Kramer. And I want to have the hair even longer!"' His voice cranks up to a familiar roar. 'I had her going for a moment. The critics would have my head. "We're doing The Tempest and I'm playing Prospero as Kramer..." You'd be run out of town!'
