Kim's not a theatre novice. She has performed many roles in North America including A View From The Bridge, The Misanthrope, and Wild Honey on Broadway opposite Ian McKellen in the National Theatre production.
But it has been a life-long dream for me to be in the West End,' Kim said. 'I'm in my 40s and if not now, when? It's time.
'I can't say there's no fear. It's like getting on that horse or bicycle. I know how to ride it, but I'm just a little rusty - but that's what rehearsals are for.'
The 47-year-old also hopes to talk with old friend Christopher Reeve about how he has coped, following his riding accident several years ago.
One of the biggest thrills will be flying her parents, Dennis and Shane, to London where they will link up with all their British relatives for the first night.
'My auntie works at Marks & Sparks in Liverpool and I have relatives in Wales and South London. They call my mum and say: "Did you know our Kim's on the cover of Glamour UK?"
'As a young actress I drove my parents crazy, what with all my drama school training, so I want them to see this.'
And so they will. They can all toast her with tea in her dressing room afterwards.
For the star travelled to Britain soon after we talked and today is busy making a TV commercial for... Tetley's tea.
'My mother is a huge tea drinker and Tetley's is her preferred brew. "You have to do it!" she kept saying to me,' Kim giggled as we spoke in Manhattan.
Naturally, sex had to figure here somewhere. So Kim's also shooting a documentary, through her own production company, called Sexual Intelligence, for Channel 4 and America's HBO channel.
