Bloomin' good NY laugh

If you can only shell out for one night of mirth this bank holiday weekend, ignore tonight's relatively slim comedy pickings - instead, take advantage of the fact that you'll be spoiled for choice tomorrow.

But be selective: of the Jongleurs venues, Camden (Camden Lock NW1, 8.30pm, £51, returns only. Tel: 0870 787 0707) has the strongest bill, including Stephen K Amos and Adam Bloom. Amos will also be at the Comedy Store's New Year's Eve show (1a Oxendon Street SW1, £55, 8pm, limited availability. Tel: 0870 060 2340), joined by the marvellous Will Smith among others.

Matt Kirshen, deserved winner of 2003's Hackney Empire New Act competition, joins the talented Jo Caulfield and 2002 Perrier newcomer nominee Hal Cruttenden at the Amused Moose Soho (Moonlighting, 17 Greek Street W1, 8pm, £45, limited availability. Tel: 020 8341 1341); while smooth-talking Atlantan Reginald D Hunter heads the Big Bash at the Red Rose Comedy Club (129 Seven Sisters Road N7, 9pm, £30. Tel: 0870 060 0100, www.rednosecomedy.co.uk).

Comedy Camp's do (Barcode, 3-4 Archer Street W1, 8.30pm, £22 mems, £25 nonmems, limited availability. Tel: 0870 060 0100) features Caulfield (again), Topping & Butch and Muslim stand-up Shazia Mirza. Most bashes will run into the wee hours (and the Amused Moose's goes on until 4am).

Those after New Year's Day fun don't have much to choose from but will get good bang for their buck from the Comedy Store Players (8pm, £13), whose troupe tonight includes Paul Merton.

On Monday, The Store's monthly King Gong (8pm, £5) show returns, hosted by Amos - and if you've yet to catch Jerry Sadowitz at the Soho Theatre (21 Dean Street W1, 9.30pm, £17.50, £15 concs. Tel: 0870 429 6883), you'll no doubt find him completely unmoved by the seasonal festivities as he swears and curses through his first date of 2006.
