'Acting is about finding truth and this can be equally true of a blockbuster as it is of an intellectual play about belief. I love acting,' he continues. 'It's an excellent way to find what makes people do things the way they do.'
Yet Scott's career, or more specifically his profile, has also caused him problems. His private life was the subject of immense press speculation in 2001 over rumours of an affair with Kate Winslet.
Still, Scott remains devoted to his profession. When Becket finishes, he's off to Edinburgh to film a screenplay with Irvine Welsh - who is also a mate. 'He's a Hibs fan, like me,' grins Scott. Actually, he looks as though he could do with a rest instead. Maybe the year after next.
