Ballet is light years away

Traditional Christmas ballets are all well and good, but not everyone wants to sit through yet another Cinderella or Nutcracker, let alone another snowflake scene. If you fall in to this category, then Darren Johnston's radical approach may be the alternative you're looking for. The independent dancemaker bills his new Silicon Sensorium as a 'surreal and futuristic breed of performance' that 'explores artificial life'.

The piece includes electronic sound and computer-generated imagery plus experimental choreography. There's also original music by Squarepusher. Johnston has built a reputation on his installations at the Royal Festival Hall ballroom and at the opening of the Laban building.

This event should provide a fascinating test zone for a dance-cum-club approach to performance. Swan Lake it is not.
