Stephen Fry and Mark Rylance available on demand with Shakespeare's Globe launch

Shakespeare’s Globe today launched the first video-on-demand service for theatre offering dozens of filmed performances including Twelfth Night with Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry.

Other productions made immediately available include Much Ado About Nothing starring Eve Best and both parts of Henry IV with Roger Allam.

The new online platform offers full-length HD films of more than 50 Shakespeare productions at the Globe to rent or buy including every show in the Olympic year Globe to Globe festival when every Shakespeare play was presented in a different language.

New titles which will be added in coming months include last year’s The Tempest with Colin Morgan from TV’s Merlin.

But it also offers more than 100 free interviews on the plays with figures including Judi Dench, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Jude Law and Tom Hiddleston as well as academics.

The venture builds on the pioneering work in cinema relays from the National Theatre and Royal Opera House.

Dominic Dromgoole, the artistic director, said: “The Globe is always looking for bold new ways to take Shakespeare out into the world and share his astonishing plays with as many people as possible.

Globe Player will allow us to reach brand new audiences and to make access to our productions simple and seamless for anyone with the internet.
