Quavo’s real first name is Quavious, but it might as well be “Featuring”.
As the dominant member of Atlanta hip hop trio Migos, he was already doing very nicely since a breakthrough Drake reworking of the Migos track Versace in 2013.
The group’s second album, Culture, was a US number one at the start of this year. They can claim to have popularised the ubiquitous “dab” gesture with their song Look At My Dab. Quavo drives a $300,000 McLaren 650S Spider.
Now things are getting ridiculous. Between solo guest appearances and contributions as part of Migos, the 26-year-old is currently on five singles in the UK top 100, and an incredible 11 songs in America’s Billboard Hot 100. Over here you’re most likely to have heard him mingling with Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne and Chance the Rapper on DJ Khaled’s recent number one, I’m the One, and as the other voice on the latest One Direction solo effort, Liam Payne’s Strip That Down.
He can also count Katy Perry and Calvin Harris among his recent collaborators. He’s essentially the Sean Paul of heavily Auto-Tuned sing-song rapping, and the defining sound of 2017.
