JONES may present her stage name in capitals, but that doesn’t make her any more findable on Google when there’s already a singing Tom Jones, Grace Jones and Norah Jones – heck, even Kelly Jones of the Stereophonics.
To add to the confusion, the east Londoner’s biggest moment to date, a performance on Later… With Jools Holland last month, was alongside Sir Tom. She sang her single Indulge with just a guitarist backing her, an intimate introduction to her soulful sound.
On record, she adds smooth washes of synths to the song, as is today’s fashion. Her newly released follow-up, Hoops, is better, abandoning the slightly retro feel for a bolder, busier backdrop.
Her first headline show in her hometown is this week, followed by a bigger one in February.
