Virtually famous: Baauer

In the case of Harry “Baauer” Rodrigues, it’s taken him three years to recover from going viral.

The Brooklyn-based producer is the man behind Harlem Shake, a hilariously basic dance track which in 2012 became the only thing to dance to on YouTube. Everyone from Manchester City Football Club to Homer Simpson to the Norwegian Army appeared in clips of them going nuts to its violent synths.

Its success ran away from him, earning him lucrative DJ gigs but also plenty of trouble for not clearing his samples. Only now has the dust cleared enough for him to release a debut album.

Out today, its title, Aa, suggests a new start and its guest list, including MIA, London rapper Novelist and Scottish producer Rustie, is a world away from the novelty celebs he could have pulled in with his earlier infamy.

Its dense bass music should also ensure that this time no one is listening to him as a joke.
