The Cribs - 24-7 Rock Star Shit – review: Indie through and through

The three Jarman brothers of The Cribs have been looking backwards lately, playing their 10-year-old breakthrough album Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever in a full- on tour and being the proud subjects of an exhibition at their Yorkshire hometown’s Wakefield Museum.

It turns out they’ve also been making a seventh album, the ironic title of which jokes about a band who are plain indie through and through.

Popular enough without need of a mainstream hit, more melodic songs such as Dendrophobia (that’s fear of trees, pub-quiz types) have an untamed feel, all guitar screeches and vocal screams.

Guitars churn and rumble on Give Good Time so that it feels like there are far more than three of them playing. It’s a messy collection, ragged and raw — as has long been their way.
