Rudimental - We the Generation, album review: 'a creative leap'

Hackney four-piece Rudimental went to No 1 in 2012 with Feel the Love, a calling card for their sunny reworking of dingy old drum and bass.

The positive vibes are just as Pollyannaish on their second album: Go Far has the vague aim of “spreading love to all the boys and girls”. Crucially, though, this follow-up captures the group’s soulful finesse in the studio and increasing prowess as a festival-headlining collective.

As well as recruiting Jurassic funkster George Clinton, the Rudimental family includes emerging singers on their own label, the late Bobby Womack (one of his last recordings) and guests Ed Sheeran, Lianne La Havas and Ella Eyre.

Too Cool, on which Eyre roars over brass, beats and xx-style textures, is one of several potential hits on a feelgood dance album that’s a creative leap for Rudimental.
