Five tracks to hear this week (June 15-21)

Alessia Cara, named Best New Artist at the Grammys earlier this year, puts out the first single from her forthcoming second album today. Growing Pains is a moody piece of modern electronic pop that eventually bursts into a mighty chorus.

Two years since his last album, Tom Odell is back at his piano with another love song. If You Wanna Love Somebody, a mid-paced tune with massed swells of backing vocals, is out today.

Another pianist, Olivia Chaney, has been nominated for a Grammy and a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award previously, and is back with a beautiful second album out today. Roman Holiday is the song with a low-key video on YouTube.

Conor O’Brien, the Dubliner who trades as Villagers, has just announced a fourth album to arrive in September. The first single, A Trick of the Light, floats along on a fluid bassline and atmospheric strings.

Spiritualized’s first album in six years will be out in September. The first single, I’m Your Man, is characteristically rich, multi-layered soul rock – surprising considering that this time Jason Pierce made the music entirely on his own in his house.
