Five tracks to hear this week (Aug 11-17)

The next album by bigshot indie band The National is coming next month. They’ve just unveiled a simple video for the third song to be unveiled, the beautiful piano ballad Carin at the Liquor Store.

Tottenham rapper Chip is now a long way from the chirpy pop he first made as Chipmunk. A new album, League of My Own II, is out today, featuring collaborations with Ghetts, Giggs and Wiley and the frantic new single, 34 Shots.

Modern day shoegazing band Daughter are following last year’s second album with a left turn: a score for the new video game Life is Strange: Before the Storm. The whole thing is released next month, but the new song Burn It Down appeared online this week.

Mansun are one of the few Nineties bands who haven’t reformed to play an old album in full to nostalgic 30-somethings. Instead frontman Paul Draper belatedly releases his debut solo album today, including the grandiose single Things People Want.

Big-voiced Ealing singer-songwriter Isaac Gracie is slowly building on early promise, with a powerful, full-band sound replacing his early acoustic atmospheres on a new song, The Death of You & I. It’s on YouTube now, with an accompanying EP coming next month.
