Marvel at couple's small exhibition

Kenneth and Mary Martin's abstract sculptures can be seen adorning the grim concrete frontages and draughty institutionalised interiors of many a post-war public building. Their type of constructivist art, based strictly on mathematical principles, can be said to be typical of a vision that sat well with the ideas of a Modernist utopia. Now that such ideas have been largely ejected from the mindset of the social engineers, you'll find little joy in finding these works against their rain and urine-stained backdrops.

Despite this, there is much to take delight in in this exhibition of smaller works by the couple. Kenneth Martin's mobiles (Variable Screw pictured), made from industrial objects such as screws and rotary rings, see such materials transformed into lyrical, kinetic sculptures that animate a room, while Mary's largely wall-based works are like intricate puzzles whose geometric forms offer infinite variation.

Daniel Silver: Heads

Meanwhile, Daniel Silver's Heads offers something of a riposte to the Martins' vision for an unrealised future. Taking the traditional portrait bust, Silver has worked with Zimbabwean craftsmen to produce works whose starting point was a series of mugshots of inmates on Death Row in the US. Each stone head, with gaping mouth and distorted indentations in place of features, retains a powerful individuality.
