Hollywood directors looking to cast a nasally-challenged Frenchman in their next blockbuster are out of luck - Gerard Depardieu says he has made his last movie. 'I'm in the process of stopping filming,' the Oscar-nominated star said. 'I'm a guy who's leaving!'

Depardieu, whose love of wine once prompted him to buy a vineyard, added: 'I'm a guy who's not drunk, for once.' The 56-year-old's last roles are in an as yet untitled French film and a live action version of the cult Asterix stories. He insists they will be his last appearances on screen.

'I have done 170 films and have nothing left to prove,' he said. 'I am not going to hang on like a jerk.' Depardieu was a leading actor in the 1980s and 1990s with such hits as Green Card. He was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Cyrano de Bergerac - a poet whose huge nose leaves him unlucky in love.
