Watch out for Janet Hollywood

There had to be a Nutty Professor II because Professor Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy) has to finally clinch it with the woman he loves, Denise, his fellow scientist at Wellman College.

Once again Eddie Murphy plays eight characters, six Klumps - Mama, Papa, Granny, Young Papa and Ernie as well as Lance Perkins - and Sherman's alter ego Buddy Love. My favourite character of the Klump family is the grandmother because she reminds me of my own grandmother, who was always the life of the party.

I enjoyed playing Denise Gaines because she is so sweet. She's one of those rare, sweet girls and I love how shy Sherman and Denise are with each other, and the fact that she's crazy about this man with his wonderful brain but impossible body. When the first Nutty Professor film came up, I got a call from my agent to say that the director, Peter Segal, would like to consider me. They said they needed somebody who was as sweet as Sherman but who could hold her own with the Klumps. But apparently it was Eddie who suggested me - he liked my singing - and it has been a perfect match.

Eddie kept us in fits on set. He loves to ad-lib and he's so funny. Just trying to keep a straight face during takes is difficult. For me, it has been a way-out vacation to be working on a film after so much singing. But I've been working on screen, on television, since I was seven, so it's hardly unknown territory for me. Now I'm working on a new album I put on the back burner to make this film. It will be released next year when I go on tour, but I definitely want to do more films. I love them.
