Ursula is Bond No1

The timeless image of Ursula Andress emerging from the sea in a white bikini has earned her the title of best Bond girl of all time.

A poll of film fans found that the actress's iconic turn as Honey Ryder in 1962's Dr No, the very first Bond movie, made her the best leading lady in the spy capers.

She beat younger models such as Halle Berry, who emulated her bikini scene when she played Jinx in Die Another Day in 2002. Berry took fourth place.

The survey by Empire magazine and Sony Pictures also reveals the ultimate Bond movie, gadget and villain. The 1964 film Goldfinger, starring Sean Connery, was voted favourite movie with 25 per cent of the votes. Although it was the third film made, only 1965's Thunderball, attracted bigger cinema audiences.

The evil Ernst Stavro Blofeld, who appeared in six Bond films, usually accompanied by his white Persian cat, was the most popular villain.

The sinister character regularly dropped his enemies into a pool of piranhas at his hollowed-out volcano home. The Lotus Esprit, which featured in 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me, was named as the best Bond gadget. 007, played by Roger Moore, is in the car being chased by a helicopter and steel-toothed villain Jaws in another car.

After shooting off a pier into the sea and turning into a submarine, launching a missile to take out the chopper and being chased by mini-subs, the Esprit deposits our hero on the beach - totally dry.
