The heat is on in Glasgow

This agreeable culture-clash comedy takes the amiable, outsider-all-at-sea theme of Local Hero and combines it with the more deadly edge of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

In it, a pair of New Jersey gangsters arrive in Glasgow to hang out, and hide out, with their Italian/Scottish cousins until the heat dies down in the USA.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian bad guys have hired a brace of unlikely lads from Liverpool to search out and destroy the mobsters.

Caught in between the bad boys are genial Scottish café proprietor Roberto (Gerald Lepkowski) and the unacknowledged love of his life, Alice (Shirley Henderson). Peopled with some truly great faces (Dan Hedaya and Russell Hunter to name but two), this is an admirable little movie that successfully combines romance with revenge and gentleness with violence.
