Surprisingly amusing

Subtitled When Harry Met Lloyd, this prequel to the Farrelly Brothers comedy about two guys whose friendship was cemented by stupidity is more amusing than it has any right to be.

It isn't comedy of the year, but the initial encounter and subsequent friendship of nice-but-dim Harry (Derek Richardson) and arrogantbut-stupid Lloyd (Eric Christian Olsen) provides a lightly diverting way of wasting 87 minutes.

Having literally run into each other - Lloyd's cracked tooth is embedded in Harry's forehead - the pair form an instant attachment and head off to high school together.

The "plot" involves them exposing the corrupt and 'scheming school principal while continuing to behave in an excessively stupid manner.

I particularly liked the note Lloyd leaves for his adoptive father (Luis Guzman), the school janitor, in foot-high letters of ketchup. And their concern for a pupil who suffered minor injuries in a skateboarding accident ("Don't worry. One day they'll find a cure.") zings past with the speed of a, um, skateboarder.
