Scary movies - and super cheap

I really liked the original Blair Witch Project. It was a great concept, and the last ten minutes were so scary. I was living in a scary area of Brooklyn at the time, and saw it in a scary movie theatre - then I went home to my incredibly scary apartment, which had no curtains. It was the freakiest thing. I kept thinking someone was going to smash my window and break in.

Blair Witch 2 is not about repeating the same formula again, but seeing what effect the original had on our society. In Book Of Shadows, I play one of five characters (including Tristen Kyler, Jeff Donovan, Kim Director and Stephen Barker Turner) who have seen the movie, and go to spend a night in the woods where it was set, only to black out for five hours, not knowing why.

I hadn't done a movie before, and I had nothing to draw on. But I was excited to get the part - I wasn't thinking, "Oh, my God, I can never do this." I honestly didn't think about how difficult it would be. It seemed easy. I was learning at lightning speed.

I studied Wiccanism intensely. I read about seven books. Joe Berlinger, the director, would give me a new book on Wicca almost every day. I became knowledgeable about the persecutions Wiccans receive on a day-to-day basis - how their kids are shunned from activities at school, how their neighbours try to get them to move. They are so discriminated against. I got into this argument with a witch because she didn't think I was taking her seriously. I found a similarity, though, because people often treat actresses the same way.
