Disney's flirtation with the idea of a 10-minute theme-ride posing as a film ought to stop here. They got away with Pirates of the Caribbean but it was scarcely cause to get cocky. The Haunted Mansion has Eddie Murphy playing an estate agent sent to flog a spooky house - home to Terence Stamp's maniac ghost butler. It's not frightening and it's not funny. We're left with weightless carnage.

Steve Martin plays Dad to 12 kids and husband to a capable, creamy wife (Bonnie Hunt). Life is merry, beserk. Pet frogs fall into scrambled eggs, Mum writes a best-seller ... happy big American family! What is presented as a celebration of family democracy, dynamism, and compassion feels like something that vaults straight over your head into a sickbag.

LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION

Cert PG, 91 mins
Live action is mixed with animation and Daffy Duck wars with Bugs Bunny at the Warner Brothers lot and beyond. The studio is name-checked with paranoid frequency, and the script is the usual mix of cynical quips, and tiny gems.

Tooth stars a trim Harry Enfield as a lunatic out to catch a renegade tooth fairy. Sally Philips plays an American, but her husband is a Liverpudlian. How can such a thing be?

SILENT GRACE

An earnest, telly-orientated account of the dirty protests held by prisoners at the Armagh women's prison.

SUDDENLY

Another encouraging film from Argentina, born from economic crisis and full of spirit and sweetness. Three women travel from Buenos Aires to rural Argentina and are thrown together, and then thrown apart. A romantic and startling vision.
