No more Mr Pie Guy - part 2!

Biggs is evidently frustrated by the film's no-go and has a number of ideas as to why the release has stalled: "There were initial theories that comments made by Wurtzel created problems and the studio, understandably, wanted to distance themselves." he offers.

Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Wurtzel had complained that people were 'overreacting' and said of the towers falling, 'It was a most amazing sight in terms of sheer elegance. It fell like water. It just slid, like a turtleneck going over someone's head. It was just beautiful.' Predictably, the ensuing controversy didn't help the film's prospects.

"But that [problem] can't be applicable now," he continues. "I've come to realise it's amazing how many movies sit on shelves. But I don't think it's a quality thing, the film is a solid film. Christina's amazing and it should be seen for her performance alone. Another theory could be that at the centre of the story is a character that isn't that endearing. It’s kind of a tough sell."

Despite this disappointment, Biggs felt 'comfortable' working with the quirky Ricci again, who, he insists is "fun and cool and great to hang out with", although he concedes that her offbeat, scary image isn't just restricted to her screen performances. "I know why she is cast in those kind of roles," he muses. "Beyond the physical mysteriousness that she brings, she can be dark in a way that is beyond her years."

He also thoroughly enjoyed the "loose" process by which Allen makes films. Biggs was clearly in awe of the veteran auteur, and his insistence that actors turn in a totally unfeigned performance. "Now, what director doesn't want that?" Biggs poses. "But he was soooo particular about it. He would always find a way to prove to you why your performance wasn't as natural as it could be. He made you realise you could do better. I loved that."

As far as other acting challenges go, Biggs is keen to do more theatre. After a successful run in The Graduate opposite Kathleen Turner on Broadway, he's planning a West End stint in the not-too-distant future.

"I've been dying to come to the West End," he affirms. "I've been talking to people about doing theatre here - it's always been Broadway and West End for me rather than TV and film. So I'm itching, I'm itching!"

His admirable thespian ambitions aside, isn't Biggs a bit worried about being just another number in the glut of American stars 'doing' theatre to prove their acting chops? "Well, it's the same kind of saturation on Broadway too, now, so I'm aware it's less of an event, and yes, it's maybe more of an obstacle to overcome," he muses. "So I have to do something smart. You can't just rely on name value."

So, theatre acclaim and big box office receipts neatly tucked under his belt, doesn't the clearly talented and charming Biggs now want to supplement his career with a meaty dramatic role? Nope — this is one actor who doesn't feel the need to go Oscar-worthy.

"I'm super-comfortable with comedy and will always come back to it," he says firmly. "Do I want to move away from comedy and be 'taken seriously' as a dramatic actor? I would never sacrifice comedy for the sake of drama. Comedy, at the end of the day, is more fun. It's much more fun."
