It is fascinating talking to Clooney about his film, because his reinvention as a film-maker or, even more, as political commentator, renders any discussion of his much ballyhooed private life irrelevant. Good Night, and Good Luck is a serious piece of work. It's in black and white, features Clooney in a secondary role and hasn't got a whiff of sex appeal. At 44, his playboy image is almost entirely erased. The films he directs, writes, or acts in are now his passion.
