Kevin and Perry large in London

Harry Enfield wore his political affiliations on his sleeve last night - in fact, all over his suit - arriving at his movie premiere in jacket and trousers emblazoned with pictures of Ken Livingstone. He wore the outfit, also bearing the slogan "Ken 4 London", to the launch of his film Kevin And Perry Go Large and joked: "I went to Top Shop and I liked it and I wanted to get in the papers".

His suit makes him the latest in a line of celebrities to declare public support for Mr Livingstone. Presenter Chris Evans announced his affiliation to the independent mayoral candidate live on air, publicly pledging money for the Livingstone campaign fund. Singer Damon Albarn and DJ Norman Cook - better known as Fatboy Slim - have also declared their support.

The comedian also follows in the agit-prop footsteps of designer Katharine Hamnett, who wore a T-shirt to one of Margaret Thatcher's Downing Street receptions bearing the slogan "58 Per Cent Don't Want Pershing Missiles".

Enfield's co-star, Kathy Burke, was sporting a more conventional outfit at last night's premiere in the Warner Village Cinema, Leicester Square. She plays a spotty teenage boy in the film - Kevin's sidekick Perry - but last night she opted for a long red floral dress, declaring: "I thought I'd dress up a bit tonight. As my character I have to have my boobs strapped up - but I've let them loose tonight."

The film sees Kevin and Perry, regular characters in Enfield's television series, on a mission to lose their virginity in Ibiza, where they try their hand as club DJs. Their plans go awry from the very beginning, when Kevin's embattled parents insist on going with them. Enfield said: "I wanted to do a fun movie and I love working with Kathy. I based Kevin on me when I was a horrible little boy, but he's actually quite lovely in the film."

Other stars at the premiere included Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde, who contributed to the soundtrack. She was joined by Denise Van Outen and her fianc? Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, Earl Spencer with his girlfriend Caroline Freud and EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite. A throng of prominent comedians included Paul Merton, Lee Evans, Alan Davies and Men Behaving Badly actor Neil Morrissey.

Later the celebrities went on to a party at the home nightclub - which was transformed into a mini Ibiza.

The film opens in cinemas this Friday.
